From “you’ll never amount to anything” to changing thousands of lives.
Josh Langley was told he’d never make it. He failed high school twice and spent years unemployed. But those setbacks became the spark for something extraordinary. Josh went on to become a multi‑award‑winning radio copywriter and one of Australia’s most loved children’s authors and illustrators.
Writing Being You is Enough was Josh’s way of sending a love letter to his eight-year-old self. Families everywhere resonated with its simple, powerful message of self-acceptance and from then on, he worked to help children feel seen, valued, and brave enough to be themselves.
Josh published eleven books, including the Australian Book Industry Award-winning It’s OK to Feel the Way You Do (Big Sky Publishing, 2017), which won Small Publishers’ Children’s Book of the Year. His work became a lifeline for kids navigating big feelings and a trusted resource for parents and educators.
Keep it simple and silly was Josh’s mantra. He believed the most important conversations about feelings, resilience, and kindness, should be easy to understand and filled with humour.
Thousands of children learned to befriend themselves thanks to Josh’s books, school talks, and the Inspiring Kids programme. His message was loud and clear: you are enough, just as you are.
Josh served as an ambassador for the Children’s Tumour Foundation and Camp Quality and was named a Westfield Local Hero for his advocacy. He was also an active member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (Australia West), the Australian Society of Authors, and the Children’s Book Council of Australia.
On seven and a half acres in Western Australia’s South West, Josh lived with his husband Andy. He was fond of tortellini and could turn a stick figure into a beloved character.
Josh passed away in July 2025 from the effects of brain cancer, but his important philosophy continues and is even more relevant today.
