I find it disheartening that skills and attributes such as emotional well-being, curiosity, resilience, empathy and creativity are called ‘soft’ skills in education, employment and political circles. The word ‘soft’ can have the same connotation as ‘soft’ as in soft on drugs, crime etc. (which we know are rubbish statements). However these skills are far from soft. They should be called integral skills or essential life skills. Not only will these skills set up today’s kids to be better quipped to thrive in a rapidly changing future, they’ll also be better people, better adults and better parents. That’s why I always focus on ‘essential life skills’ in my books, workshops and talks (and that includes both kids and adults) as they’re needed now more than ever. #softskills #empathy #resilience #kidsemotions #books #reading #mentalhealth #kindness #writerslife

Get your crayons out and start right where you are. Even if it's at the kitchen table. Start creating like your life depended on it.
